Know your bearing sizes- Our kits come with rod and/or main bearings.

Ford engines - Know the year of the engine and the bore size along with the stroke.

Massey Ferguson/Perkins engines - Know the build number/engine serial number and whether or not it is a direct or indirect injection.

John Deere engines - Know the engine serial number, block casting number, rod casting numbers, piston pin size and where the liner o-rings are located. Be aware of the Power Tech engine. They need a separate kit from the standard series.

International Harvester engines - Know the serial number, bore, whether or not it is a turbo or non-turbo, the piston type (flat, cupped, or stepped head).

As a rule of thumb, higher horsepower engines are designed for continuous high output and are originally fitted with superior quality materials and manufacturing processes to withstand higher strain on internal parts therefore procuring longevity. When choosing replacement parts for these engines, the same care should be taken when selecting high quality parts. We provide you high quality products. Many lower HP, utility tractors were built with cost in mind. It is still important to look for quality replacement parts for these as well. Make sure the parts you install in the engine were made to exact specifications for the model of the engine you are working on. We have kits for many makes and models. Your worst enemy when rebuilding an engine is often the one who did it before you. Not because he was not a good mechanic, but it is rare to find a logbook attached to the engine explaining what type of work was previously performed on it. Were the valves done, head planned? Were the piston/sleeve assemblies replaced with the same part numbers, or did they only do rings?

Some engine manufactures went as far as reworking engine blocks on the assembly line and thus sold some odd "out-of-spec" items to OE's. It did not compromise their use but are headaches for the people repairing them! Therefore, it is very important to always double-check the specs of the parts you received; not only to the OE specifications, but also to the parts you removed. It's a big hassle to have to take a head off again because the new head gasket that was just installed was "0.020" thinner than the one taken off.
